OMG, I've always wondered what it looked like up close and personal. Being a paranormal investigator myself, this place is definitely on my "To Do" list! Thanks Motts for bringing us such a gorgeous location to view!
I grew up in the neighborhood that now surrounds that property. It was common for myself and other kids to climb the dish regularly. It was pretty amazing as a kid, somewhat movie-like. We explored through all the buildings....at the time we weren't aware that was trespassing (being kids). They tore down the dish a few years ago. I would love to have more information about the abandon baseball field randomly placed next to the property if this site could look into that....
Hi. I worked at The Training School from 1988 to 1991 on the maintenance staff. There were a few occasions I was able to make it out to the Menatico Campus. At that time, there were a few of the cottages being used as housing for management personnel. Some of those buildings, even I was afraid of entering. The buildings there are very similar to the ones on the main campus. Very nice, detailed architecture. I'm surprised you don't have any pictures of the chapel. I was back there a couple years ago, and that is still in decent shape. There was a time when I was thinking of trying to buy it and convert it to living space. Yeah, like Alice in Alice's Restaurant.
If you are ever out there again, if you go all the way out to the end of the fields on the left, there is a lake and an old recreation area you might find interesting. Also, somewhere in the middle of the fields, there is a building where I think they used to raise cattle or some kind of livestock. It's hard to find because it is in the middle of an overgrown area.
I'm curious to why padded rooms are so rare but referenced so much into pop culture? Maybe its just the humor/sinister aspects that they make good use in movies/TV shows. But they're very few and far between. o_0 Maybe perhaps they got dismantled before the institutions closed? Hmmmmmm......
....I should stop here before I go an a ramble.... <_>
I remember this building from an episode of Ghost Hunters a few years back. It apparently housed Charles Manson for a little while but I do not know how accurate that fact is.
