The odd metal thing is the test chamber access point. This allows test itmes to be added to the room in a controlled manner. Like, spiders, snakes, noxious fumes in time release canisters & gnomes.

Hi boiler!, thank you for trying.I really would want to know her story, and talk to her. gaeblers history just makes me sad, it reminds me of my own dark times in school.
And if someone is interested in the drawn picture of a woman, i´ve talked about, go to http://abandoneddreams2010again.blogspot.de/
and scroll down to "Gaeblers children´s center". You can also go to

https://lostinnewengla...er-childrens-center/ ,and click trough the pictures. I have that pic in big size, but cant find that one anymore.

the reason why that picture is so appealing for me is, it stands out to most of the other senseless, greasy graffitis that covered all the walls, ceiling. It really is a very beautiful drawn woman, even though it still doesnt make any sense at all.

It has that cafeteria look, with the "Sunny Stripes!!", but did it have the cafeteria smell? Seems like it would take a LOT for that to age out.

Bathrooms at these kinds of places (old psychiatric hospitals) usually have little or no privacy, and are typically smaller. It's difficult to say what the room could have been used for, as there is barely anything remaining. It could be an area where routine examinations would take place, or some service like washing bedpans, or an infirmary.

The children didn't live in the conditions pictured above; Pennhurst had been shuttered for about 18 years by the time the photo was taken.

It's like a mitten without a place for your thumb, usually made of a strong nylon material. They prevent someone from hurting themselves or others by scratching, picking, etc. It could suppress habitual behavior or simply to stop one from picking out their stitches after surgery.

Here's a photo of one that includes padding, which would be used on someone prone to hitting/punching: http://opacity.us/image9277_mitt.htm
