what strikes me odd here is that no toilet is the same. Things being just a little off, out of wack, oddly placed and off kilter seems to be a signature theme in Pennhurst. Does anyone else notice this?
Motts ! if the celing in this pic is made of the tin or lead used in the era of construction, you should ask the demo people the box it up and give it to you, then you could build the house you talked about in the buffalo state hosp.
Anyone else that wants to read the story of girl who Closed Down Byberry should go to to the website that memorializes her story.
It can be found here: http://www.annafoundation.org/Int-yrs-1.html
Just keep hitting the *NEXT* block at the bottom of each "page" for the whole story.
Keep a box of Puffs handy...
It does put me in mind of the Miami art deco theme - 30s and 40s or so. I have admit it I get a kick out of the color scheme . . . I had an old tile bathroom like this in an older house in Indiana a few years back, but the color scheme was just black, white, and pink, nothing near this swell. :`-)
This shower curtain would have to go, however - it's not NEAR kitschy enough . . . Maybe flamingos and palm trees?
I worked in a State Hospital and was in the Physical Therapy room many times, with regards to balance and safety, railings were present on at least one side, but usually both. Some Railings were removable, and others were bolted to the wall in front and on the side. There is no way a person could have gotten to the top step and turned around on these steps even with help.
It would take a ton of money. It's a shame. I really like this place.
There was a fire in 2003:
"Fallsburgh Police are calling the fire at the former Pines Hotel, arson. Detective Simmie Williams says, evidence found at the scene of Thursday's fire has led investigators to believe that the fire had been set. The search has begun for those responsible. The fire destroyed the Carlton building at the vacant Pines Hotel complex in South Fallsburg. Williams says people have been known to trespass on the property and stay in the Carlton building. "
