Haha rediculous comments people...Actually this was done by a TA class in 1983, my mother, black sheep MARCIA was in it..They did a reflection painting at the end of their class to represent them because they were going to be banners that were hung up in the class..Her group had the nickname "Black Sheep" unlike the other groups they werent too enthusiastic about painting it so they did it as a joke...I have pictures of the class, and the names of the people on the back of it as proof...so i laugh at all of you who thought it symbolized depression and shame..xVilleValox@yahoo.com

That is painted ON the wall. My friend & I visited Pennhurst last night got really interested, so he talked to his mom about it. She used to work there, and painted that dwarf, and many other murals.

Yes it is true that this building housed the office of mental health, and is still used by the OMH. but when Pilgrim was fully functional, this was the directors mansion who ran the entire facility. later it was retro-fitted into multiple apartments for senior staff and served as a sort of "community house" where doctors and nurses would gather for recreation on evenings that they had off. the building also had stone fire places and chandilers.

I my self live in the shadow of Pilgrim, and have heard numerous stories from all of LI's hospitals. I have heard of a similar story about some friends who encountered a gril in one of the wards, I believe this story took place at Kings Park though. They had entered a room, and the exit door was locked. when they turned around they encounted a gril who told them that they didn't belong there and should leave the building. this girl how ever was older, a teenager 16-18 in camo pants. she screamed at them to leave the bldg. they tried the door, and yelled back that the door was locked, once more the girl in the camo pants screamed that they didn't belong and to leave, and with this the door unlocked, as they left, the looked back and the girl in the camo pants had vanished.

The Kirkbride is still standing, as well as the large complex across the road, but they have started construction on the buildings surrounding the Kirk.
