we never use an emesis basin for someone who is vomiting. Both the patient and myself would be covered in yucky stuff. We use a bath basin instead. Like lynn said , we usually use these for brushing teeth or as a spit basin.
I grew up near this place and nobody seemed to know what the hell it was or why it was built, I spent a lot of time hanging out here with friends and drinking beer. Thanks for finally letting me know the back story!
This was probably a stray looking for someplace warm to sleep in the winter. Possibly froze to death or died of old age. I doubt someone shut the cat up in there to die.
I doubt somone intentionally "locked up the cat", I personally believe it is more likley the cat found its way in there after somone had opened the cabinet and then laid down and died from natural causes, plus its weired the bones are picked white, normally rotten corpses have that nasty dried rotted meat clinging to the bones, especially if they're not open to the air and other scavangers..I.E. insects... pretty neat I think
When I was a patient (not there) there was laws already in place called patient rights act. Its places like this that patient have rights now and allowed to have a state lawyer if abused or if you feel you don't need medication you can have your case seen. I remember they had a Seclusion room but from the way the other patients and nurses talk it was against the law to force people in there and was never used or something like that. in NY.
They still use those cribs nowdays...nothing wrong with them, better than the matress on the floor, or being strapped down. It's a crib, no differance than a bed, only an expensive safe way...it's not like those who have the illness can be watched 24/7
Usually, those cribs are for more crippled people, those who are almost veggies. I have a friend who has a brother who has a crib like that, and he is 20 something. the people are pretty much in need in them, they are as helpless as babies.
I myself have gone into this amazing place. I have many pictures of it. It is very very creepy. Not a good feeling once your inside. I explored the Right side of the building the most. Most floors were caved in. And there also is 2 levels of basement underground. I dont know how deep the 2nd one goes but it have about 20 stairs going down.... To a dark unknown area !!!!
My dentist, and the nurse type person, like to talk about dogs jumping off of couches onto puppies and 'whatever doesn't kill them only makes them stronger' while they've got little picks poking at my gums.
i also had the pleasure of working with one of the patients in the class action lawsuit brought against pennhurst. talk about a wild ride that was. the ride wasnt so depressing as most of the patients now live in mini institutions called group homes, most people just do not hear about the abuse that still goes on with these patients, no i never worked at pennhurst, i worked in the group homes for 12 years, and most would be surprised. cannot answer alot of questions anyone may have but i will give a email here where someone can get ahold of me. wrkinonrn@aol.com, just put in pennhurst in subject and they will get the questions to me if i can answer them i will email you back.
Can you still get into the buildings? I haven't been there in over a year and someone told me you couldn't get on the property at all!! Is this true? Has anyone been there recently and what is left inside the buildings? Thanks
