That wood is beautiful, it's too bad it's sitting there to rot.
Not to reveal my age, but I remember when these were in service in the US, along side the first rotary fax machines, where you put a piece of paper on a drum, locked it down, closed the lid, the drum and paper would rotate and a stylus went back and forth to print out the fax. One page took about three-four minutes and you could barely read it. Times sure have changed.
I would give my first born for that piece of equipment (if I had a first born!)
The green colors in this gallery are very intense.
is that a floor lamp in the corner?
There's something about a tattered curtain that speaks volumes of what this room once was and will never be.
I see the railings are gone, which makes me wonder how ornate they were or was it just for the scrap value.
now how cool is that?
I'd move right in.
I love the combination of stone with wood, they don't use it enough anymore in construction. It's a shame this place burnt down.
Yes I come here every day hoping to find a new gallery! I am totally addicted to this website!
I remember having to spit in one of those porcelain sinks at my dentists office when I was about 5 or 6. He was older than god and all his work was temporary. I was 35 when I had one of his temporary fillings replaced with a permanent one! And the smell of that room. Some things are just burned into memory!
I hate drop ceilings!
I agree with Larry D. I've seen other sites with similar content but they don't have the class this one does. The brilliant photos, the history and of course our comments all come together to make as Larry D said, the Gold Standard. This is why I keep coming back here every day. Thank you!!
For some reason, this image gives me the feeling of being in the bowels of a great ocean liner -
