OMG Nancy, My mother would tell me the same thing! "If you don't stop crying", I'm gonna send you to KALAMAZOO STATE HOSP! Nice, really made me feel like I could talk to her about my problems! I have never forgotten that cruelness!!!!
Cudos, Lynne-I'll be a player on your team any day! I've been RN for 36yrs & have done the early psych stuff at Kalamazoo State Hosp (late 60's). I had tunnel vision going into that place. Can remember the primitive cage like cells on 3rd floor for women. Can remember ECT, read about lobotomies & have taken care of a few who had been victums of that cruel surgery. But bottom line- there is a fine line between sanity & insanity!
Can you imagine the sounds in these great halls-rather soberingwhen we look & hear NOTHING!
We'd put on our roller skates & wiz those pts from one end to the other in less than 5 sec!!!!! hehehehe
Twug, did you make that up or is it from a book? Awesome mind you have MOTTS for the unique pic & Twug for the words of those who were unable to put their feelings into words! I am really hooked on going through the wonderful adventures Motts et al & letting us live vicariously thru you!. Many thanks
Doncha know! This is where the staff took their breaks!!!!! lmao
Is that a face I see looking at me from outside my room??? That small rectangle on the lower lt is where they put your food in to you-of course -it was plastic tableware....
There were No male nurses back in this era.....
Mott's You are too creative!!! As mentioned above with the different textures & slight tilt of your camera...
did anyone ever get into Kalamazoo State Hosp., MI before it was torn down?
There were cagelike cells on the 3rd floor for the "unmanageables"
