Definitely not a light fixture. In this old building I'd say that the wiring would have been ran in conduit on the outside of the wall.

Chaos! It's interesting to see newer items like the fluorescent lighting affixed to those old tin ceilings. As an electrician it interests me to see how these old buildings were retrofitted with electrical, plumbing , etc.
