It's funny how things from decades ago, reappear after a place has closed down, even if it was used up until recent times.

I don't think it's wood, I think it might just be rusted.
It does look very castle-like.

Reminds me of my old school, the interior of that was painted this exact colour, all the walls were cracked and peeling as well, and we're only talking about 5 years ago.

Not something they'd put effort into nowadays. Today it'd just be some crappy mesh because 'who will look at it?'

Maybe they assumed if they cut something off they'd get out of there?

I assume hospitals would have a few laying around?
