Shit! that scared the hell out of me! it took me reading half the post to realise it was a person and even then it took me longer to see the actual person instead of some wierd... i dunno! great shot for scaring the hell outta ppl though!

We still have phones like this in my hospital. Crazy.

I visited a prison museum that was built at about the same time in Rawlins, WY. It also had different colors on the walls and different sized cells. The tour guide explained that some of these differences could be attributed to expansion/newer construction. My first hand account is that I would as soon die as live like that. The smell of urine was everywhere and the dank chilly darkness was depressing as hell.

I really, really like the title of this one. I think it made my evening.

It looks like the glutaraldehye we use to sterilize equipment.

Usually doctors use laryngoscopes to intubate. Back in the days of TB asylums, intubation wasn't really done much at all; Lynne was probably right, as usual. =)

If you look at the Pennhurst galleries on the "elpeecho" website, there's a movie there with film clips from "Suffer the little children" and a guy with a camera in Pennhurst, set to Pink Floyd's "Brain Damage." It's well done, I thought.

Those emesis basins are awful. The only advantage is that the curve of the basin fits neatly under the lips and wraps around so that as little puke as possible gets on stuff.

On the other hand, for those patients who are puking a LOT or very forcefully, it's not quite so good. Personally, I give people buckets if they tell me they want to puke.

I think this would make an excellent desktop. The trees have a nice effect on the whole picture.
