Anyone have any shots of the boiler room?

This facilitated maintenance of the original dynamo's which were originally at the plant, then later the steam turbines. I thought it was a 75 tonner, but the info u's provided show 50 tons. Cool stuff.

This is probably a 75 ton hook. It is attached to the overhead crane. This facilitated maintenance of the dynamos of which this plant originally had. The dynamo's, which were reciprocating piston engines, were later replaced by steam turbines. The crane allowed the removal of the turbine casing for inspection / repair.

This place is similar in appearence to the 74th street generating station on york avenue in NYC.

These boilers were probably Babcock & Wilcox two drum box header water tube boilers that were originally coal fired. It could have been set up where the boilers on one side were stoker fired, and the boilers on the opposite side were hand fired. There should be holes in the floor where the ashes would collect and go down one level to the ash cars. The ash cars would be on tracks, and would move the ash along the tracks where they would probably wind up dumping to an ash hoist to facilitate moving the ash to a barge. You can see toward the top where the bricks extend outward. This would be where the support for the two drums, header and boiler tubes would be. There were veritcal baffles in the tube bank that would probably make 3 passes prior to exiting to the rear breaching to ensure maximum efficiency. Shame they knocked them down.
