I've noticed that often if you walk right against the walls the floors are almost always sturdy enough to hold you. Although I'm not sure if thats true for this floor!

Jude if you go up four stories of stairs it is easy to assume that the hole in the floor is a four story drop considering that a hole in a floor often is caused by a leaking roof and often the hole continues to the cement floor of the basement.
