All that stuff looks so huge and heavy... when they shut the place down, did they just drag a bunch of stuff to the central areas and drop it there? Obviously these large, rusty items are not in their original working locations. Seems so random and chaotic... and yet still strangely beautiful.

That's a wicked saw blade. Complete with rust. Probably still sharp, from the looks of it!

This place looks like a broken ankle waiting to happen... hope you were able to tread carefully and escape unscathed, Motts.

Love the layer of dust over everything, lending it that eerie, untouched feel.

Is there any place where all of Lord's photographs are available for viewing? This is an amazing travesty in America's history, but a fascinating study in the evolution of mental health care. I'm currently reading "The Lives They Left Behind: Suitcases From A State Hospital Attic" and this would be a perfect complementary study.

This is sad. It's almost painful to know there is a dedicated group of people genuinely interested in preserving this amazing structure, yet for lack of funding and having to wrestle with the government's red tape, this beautiful, historical monument is crumbling faster and faster. Many stately structures worth saving come under the wrecking ball with relatively little attention, except for the outraged urb-exers like us, and then some like these disintegrate before our eyes no matter how hard people try to save them.

I need to win a lottery or something. *sigh* I hope something can be done for Bannerman's soon.

Okay, the perspective in this picture is just amazing... and the overall effect is outstandingly creepifying. Yeah. I hated the dentist before. Now I am just terrified.

It looks echo-ey. Extremely institutional (yeah, I know it's an institution, but you get what I mean...)
