I think it was just chipped away.

Probably to keep vagrants and people like me out... it looked like they were setting up an alarm system at the time though, and the heat also might be kept on in the winter to prevent deterioration.

Almost everything left behind that could be unfastened has been taken, from documents and audio reels to the weather vanes on the roof.

This was one of the curved niches found in the middle of the hallways, I believe this was in the female wing but could be wrong.

Almost all the ceilings were vaulted like this, it's pretty incredible... hey Doc, welcome aboard, there's plenty of hospitals here and more coming ;-)

Thanks, yes the thick metal screens could be unlocked, and the window panes could be raised a bit to vent air, that's about it though.

I don't know, they were removed before I could see them. They were most likely auctioned off, which is what typically happens to hospital furniture and equipment when they close down.
