I am fascinated by the complexity of this machine and the processes involved in building/maintaining it. And who the heck was brilliant enough to envision all of this? I am guessing that after an initial brilliant idea, each piece and/or process was added by trial and error to improve the production rate. Engineers never get enough credit for their braininess.

When we lived in Pittsburgh we used to drive by the slag heaps almost every day. I chuckled when I heard "slag" used as a derogatory word on a British sit-com some years back, but all I could think was, "If a woman is anywhere near as tough as the slag at a steel factory, she must be one hell of a tough woman and has my admiration and respect."
