Hey Steven! I had just noticed that wolf face and was going to ask the same question before I saw your post. It looks like a body on the gate with the head above. Awesome extra creepy element, eh?

-B-, the dead tree to the right is covered with that ivy. No doubt the ivy is probably parasitic and killed the tree.

The flimsy little canopy is an awning to prevent rain from hitting you while you wait at the door or have a smoke.

I think the half painted walls had something to do with sanitation. One sees it in almost all government owned buildings. Same stupid green everywhere. They could scrub and repaint the lower half of the walls without having to re-do the whole tall wall. I had to scrub plenty in the military.

I thought they were bed mattresses until I saw the pictures of the porch furniture. I agree with all infestation remarks. Don't forget the mice.

Upon closer inspection I see what might be a bath tub in the next room. Perhaps this device was used to warm blankets or towels?

I am not sure what happened to all of the people that had to leave, but I do know that much of the overcrowding was due to people dumping individuals that did not really belong in an institution.

They put so much work into these places and then just leave them. Do you know how much those gates would cost today????

Beautiful soothing greenery and fresh smells. Crunch leaves underfoot. Nice.
