samantha, lorraine, any specific stories of torture, or just speculating? they had a morgue because they were a hospital, and people die more frequently at hospitals than in other places.

makes sense to have a place to put those stiffs on ice so they don't spoil before you eat them. ;)
Holly, do you know any specific stories or is it just too horrible for you to tell? Letchworth was supposed to have been better than other similar places.
I have a photo of a sink in this building in a different bathroom that is also filled with plaster. I didn't notice it when I took the picture but there is no spigot on the faucet; there is instead something styled like a third knob. So not only did they take the time to plaster the plumbing, they replaced it decoratively! And even more strange: the soap is still in the soapdish. I'll post the photo later and re-comment with a URL.
You can still see metal placards that very closely resemble these on telephone poles every once in a while. The electric company must have had a machine to make them.
The issue with the upper floors was fire damage, not rot, although obviously it has now also rotted.
It's a textured paint.
According to someone on my site's Pines message board, the people in the tub in that old picture being referenced here are some of the Ehrlich family, the owners until the end. The message board for anyone interested is located at http://www.ineedattention.com/yabbse/
Actually, those aren't meds. I was there earlier today. Those are actually vials for stool samples. If you have a full resolution detail of this photo, zoom in and see if you can read the label. It actually has a diagram explaining how to describe the consistency of the 'sample'.
