Good idea locking up toothbrushes, we had a patient that swollowed everything she could. Had surgery for removing necklaces, bracelets, TOOTHBRUSHES. When a patient asked for a new toothbrush once and I had to order some from Central Supply, I told him to ask Jasmine or whatever, she swollowed most of them.

The so called "extra cage" around the window, is for one reason only, so that the window can be opened and fresh air can come in. We only have 3 windows on our unit , that have barred windows that open and we all wish there were more. Especially the patients, so they can get fresh air into their rooms. Nothing smells worse than a room with someone that doesn't bathe, wets the bed and passes gas all night. Enough to make you gag.
