Thats just what the mine we went in looked like. The train car we went in on was electric and the car was just a bench long enough for about 8 people. and it had 5 cars on it. it only took about 30' heading in at an angle downward before there was zero light coming in from outside. It was kind of freaky.

Yeah it looks like the employee I.D. box. You would take your light, radio and down you went. If the box was empty that ment you were on your shift and in the mine.
