The patients were wheeled there in their beds to spend some time in the sunlight. When we bought some old property with lots of old buildings to explore, I found a bundle of letters written to a young woman who was ill with TB and staying there. She was in there for a much longer period of time than most patients were allowed to stay, her husband was a State Rep who must have had some clout. Most patients were only allowed to stay for 6 months I believe. She was in there for about two years. She eventually died, leaving behind her little son. The letters were heartbreaking.
