Still Sticky

As with most abandoned buildings in the Detroit/Highland Park region, the Detroit Osteopathic Hospital was being ripped apart by scrappers looking to harvest copper and other valuable items to sell for cash. The scrapping was a bit surprising to see at this particular location though, as part of the hospital was actually being used by a business academy at the time. Scrappers were stealing copper from the tunnels and basements literally underneath the building where people were working; when the phone lines went dead in 2007 someone actually realized what was happening and had the thief arrested.

Despite this incident, the building was wide open when I arrived, inviting anyone who dared to go inside. Much of it seemed to have been recently remodeled to my disappointment, and much of the place looked more like a bland 1990s-era office space than an old hospital.
