Maybe the fire department was planning an exercise in this building. When my FD drills in an abandoned building, we use straw & wood pallets.

Homeless people have been known to frequent the hospital. The blinds are probably from shortly before the hospital closed down in the mid 90's.

Rumor has it that some of the underground tunnels collapsed around the same time you posted this. I hope it isn't true.

Norwich State was a horrible place, but at least it was a place to live. Many of the patients did not recover and spent the majority of their lives there. Sadly, when the hospital was shut down, these people were not given the help they needed. They were just sent out into the world after being so sheltered and some ended up homeless. There are still homeless people who live on the Norwich State Hospital grounds.

From these notes, this woman seemed to be pretty well of at the hospital. At least she wasn't in the criminally insane unit.

Some people want to "ruin" the more majestic scenes found in these places, although the reasoning escapes me.
Too bad since this picture someone spray painted "caveman" on the certain and torn the center of it =/ I hate it when people ruin these places for others but this is such a great shot =p.
Great Photo Back behind the stage in the theater (the wall in between has fallen in the reveal a glimpse of the floor next to it.)
Sadly This Tunnel is now gone but you can still cruel threw a few others that they filled in/Smashed. =p
Lol You take any pictures in the Galt building by kirkbride it has Hundreds of beds in there...

So This is were chairs go when they die.
This room is right across from the theater and is covered is White Dust (Asbestos) And Security used it as a dumping ground for mattresses lol kinda like how Stedman and Bell is now used for storage of chairs and stuff...Oh yeah they added a rather pathetic looking fence to the property too

Got in on Halloween 2010 after a really long walk on the railroad tracks. Some of the tunnels are caved in and the admissions building has a motion alarm. That is what cut our visit short. We didn't get caught and didn't see any security, but we left anyway. We will be back!!!
