Tomarrow is April Fool's day you guys! Yay!.lol I can't wait untill Easter, it is a cute holiday. Motts, your pictures have continued to amaze me each and every time, I love your dedication and enjoyment of historic and abandoned buildings and I share a similar fascination. I hope to some day achieve a career similair to yours. It would be an honour to be able to meet you online, or in person. Ref Sinks, Faucetts, soap dispeners, etc. The design is basically European. Even thought the States had their own way of getting water into a basin/bowl at the time, because the design of the building was based on a European physco/hospital model, the fittings usually were chosen by the designers of the building. Even though the designers may have been US in origin the models that they chose from were from Europe. Most people in the US would not have experienced such faucetts at this time, unless of course they were well travelled ...or mad! There is no better, or worse , just different!

I think the dark room was for the development of x-rays. Many state run hospitals were self-sufficient, so they didn't have to take the patients off site. (ie. ) doctor, dentist, barber hairdresser.

The porcelain "thingi" in the middle is the drain stopper. The idea was you pulled this up to plug the drain, then used both hands to turn on the water ( to get the temp. you want ). You then wash your hands in the standing water, then pushed the stopper down and let the water down.

To me it looks as if someone had their hair done and just set the paper down. Just because you are in a mental hospital dosn't mean that you have to look like crap. It helped the moral of the patients, who dosn't want to look pretty
