Addresograph is a brand name but you guys are right: it was used to make the metal ID plates for patients. This plate was used to stamp the patient's information on charts, etc.

I doubt the bed scales were only used for the morbidly obese. With TB in advanced stages the act of getting out of bed just to step on the scale could have exhausted the patient. Their energy would need to be preserved to fight to breath.
