The Duck: The aircraft boneyard is at Davis-Montan AFB outside of Tuscon AZ. It is a great view on Google Maps "sattelite" photos.
I personally prefer seeing these hulks dead and decomposing here on the SI shore. I don't know how to explain it, but I have always been attracted to the old and abandoned. I realize that the "best" fate would probably be as a reef somewhere, supporting the future generations of marine life but something draws me to this Disneyworld of discarded hulks. I can look at the photos and imagine the ghosts as hard working, revenue producing ships at long last gone to their rest.
It's an archeology sort of thing I guess.

[Info removed as per site policy] Where did Mr Motts put in your kayak? I would drive down from MA to cruise this boneyard

amazing set, i will have to explore the rest of your site.
i hate people that vandalize and loot UE sites. explore, take lots of photos and leave it the way you left it. if someone had "so looted this stuff" Mott wouldnt be able to share these shots with us. who knows what other treasures have been stolen from these ships.
finally some UE! great photos!
"Looks like you got close. They're right though, it'd be fun to go. I wonder, this is obviously dangerous. Did you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get to roam this graveyard? I mean, disclaimers, insurance, bribes?"

its UE, most likely he just discovered it, did some recon, and planned a day to explore it. these sites dont usually have a lot of security if any.

I swear-- there was a model of this very ship-- or her sister ship-- on the Antiques Roadshow the other day! It was something or something-or-other name, first laid (ahem) in 1912.
the way the water flows back off the deck (left side of photo) makes the boat look like it is emerging from the water like a crocodile or something
"Actually, if the photographer had moved a bit more to the left, he/she would have had a slightly better composition." -brass427

Actually if your mouth mooved a bit less we would be much happier *heheh kidding*

Its just a bit hipocritical to say "if you did this it would be better" ....... could you be a bit more constructive please
There is a path betwen the two ships and i just wanna walk down it...or swim down it or motor down it...or whatever
