Go get "Google Earth" install, look up staten island, go to the south west corner and begin scanning the chanel northwards... You'll run into the shipyard before very long. and yes! you can actually identify some of the ships....

There is a large Ferry boat, that can be seen from the NJ Turnpike I think after exit 10 heading south, does anyone know how it got there, and what its disposition is?

It has a great sense of depth that pulls you into the photo, although I wouldn't fancy my chances walking down there !!!

Really amazing pictures. I've been intrigued by the Staten Island Ship Graveyard since I first read about it in Weird NJ back in 2001. Last year I wrote an essay about it for my writing class, after having visited the site. I've been there only once since then, but I've never had the cojones (or the equipment!) to get so close as you.

I grew up on Staten island. My grandfather used to work in a ship yard when I was a kid so I was aware of these wrecks but this photographer does a great job of capturing the mood of the subject matter. Great job! The next time I am home I may take some photos of this site myself.

a few years ago my son jamie friend zero took us their to see the ships. his boat had a special tv that enabled you to see under the water. i saw many ships that where sunk under the water to make room for the ones on top. so now they cannot touch these ships as not to upset the ecology of the water and the fish ands creatures under the water. gail

the phto is magnificent both of them thank the photographer. i guess that is why they call it the boat graveyard all things buried is such a shame where there was once life and there is no more it is so sad. they cannot touch these ships any more because it will change the ecology of the water that it sits in. there are fish and sea things down their that have made homes in and around the ships and the law says it will mess up the ecology of the water. some one once told me that . he was an older man that once worked diving gor the sdcrap yard. what wonderful stories and history we have here on staten islad. gail
