After removing the upper decks and engines &boilers & over hanging side decks and all remainging wood The rest of the main deck and hull were steel in good shape. I than put the boat up for sale as a barge. I also removed the two six foot propellers. I ALSO locked the two rudders in place. After a few years i finaly scrapped the boat. I have many pictures of the boat being scrapped. I hated to scrap the poor boat

The boat is the "Seawells Point" of 1926: one of the original Electric Ferries. When traveling on the expressway in Staten Island to the Outerbridge Crossing, I used to just be able to see her resting offshore. She has been sitting there since the late 1960's.

ships hulls nearto and below the waterline tend to be treated with different paints to those above the waterline. below water they get treated with antifowling paint, this has a chemical in it that prevents growths of weed algae and limpets etc, this paint tends to be more hard wearing that ordinary rustproofing paint used above the waterline. most hulls tend to get treated about 2metres or sometimes more above the waterline.
