I really wouldn't mind sliding down that laundry shoot. It would rule and kick ass.

There is a bathtub in the school because the "students" were mental patients who lived here. Here in New England, state funded institutions were called "State Schools" or "State Hospitals". We still have one in Wrentham,MA that used to be called Wrentham State School..It's now known as the Wrentham Development Center

on some of the tunnel walls people left interesting saying like, The sun is not yellow, it's chicken, and another that said "Life cannot survive in an institution. How long they had been there could not be determined

interesting that chair is still there, friends of mine and I used to frequent the dever school on many occasions about 5 years ago. There used to be laundry in that shute till we pulled it out and someone decided to try and climb up in there. Not a very wise decision i might add. Thank you for this site and making remember my experiences in this very haunted, sad place

I worked at Dever for a little over 20 yeras!
What a place! We had most of the problem behaviors in the years I worked there!
Most of the time it was total craziness! Met some good people...had some laughs....seen some things that you couldn't possibly imagine!

I don't think it's THAT ugly, it's almost pretty in a certain way, if you look at it.

FWIW, the St. Louis county juvenile detention facility (built, I think, in the 1980s) has this exact setup for the "residents'" showers, plexiglass and all.
