Em, "it isnt really polite to complain in a public place intended for a differnt purpose other then speaking your thoughts about others choices in words" - like you just did? ;-)
Keith, the word "retard" is meant as an insult. The "community" of people who write in here don't like that word and people who consider themselves mature don't use it because when used these days as a noun it is meant as a slur. If someone wrote in a racial slur I know there would be just as much of a negative reaction to it.
In truth, the word has picked up so much of a negative connotation that the term "mental retardation" is being replaced in the field with "intellectual disability." That ought to show you that there is enough emotional baggage associated with the term that people find it offensive.
actually some ppl do chose to be that way....by makeing a poor choice..lets say driveing drunk..they get into a accident and they end up that way...so it is incorrect when some ppl say they didnt chose to be that way. and you shoudlt get upset for the words other ppl use becuase u are going to find it everyware so its more mature to just get over it. and second it isnt really polite to complain in a public place intended for a differnt purpose other then speaking your thoughts about others choices in words.
for a long time i thought it was a hole in the mattress due to the reflection....reminded me of Johnny depps (<-for you Lynne) death in Nightmare on Elm Street...eaten by his bed
I think they leave these lights burning to give the impression that someone is in the building. It does have an effect though, because I was more nervous walking into the lighted areas than I ever was walking into any dark tunnel. lol
Deceptively simple - the tonal range and brick - like walls give the image a very cold look. As Motts observes above, the very fact that grates cover the window, securing patients inside, of whom many may have walked these stairs as well as staff over the years is equally as deep as any of Mott's other images, only with a more surfaced look.
