how does paint just diteriorate like that...
you have to look down into the end of the hallway to really get this picture and how insane it really is
tho you are in a physiatric center and this picture portrays that it's dark, and that's it's empty with no life, the light shining through the windows shows there is something almost watching over, brings light in a different sense to the room. it makes it feel wanting and ok.

Looks like what's known as a 'slit lamp'. The idea is that light is shone into the patient's eyes and it bouces off the retina. The doctor can see the state of the retina, or scan the eye for foreign bodies. You'll likely find the knobs will change intensity and slit shape/color.
