Candles look lit, fresh flowers there, it's being maintained. The plaque there likely has info regarding this grotto, which appears to be dedicated to the Virgin Mary. (Obvious statue.) In the Catholic religion, praying to the Virgin Mary became common as it was thought that Jesus would not neglect his mother's wishes. She's a very powerful figure.

It looks like Light vs Dark...on the right there is lightness=good...on the left is darkness=bad. One side just looks a little more appealing. The juxtaposition is amazing using one camera with the wide angle lens!

Why is that Modern, abandoned buildings just don't age as well as older structures. Some of the old building seems to be in such good shape for being around for so long.
