The only part of the original building that burnt was one of the spires, which burnt due to excessive heat. The other things that burnt were 3 60-70 % completed apartment buildings and various construction trailers/buildings. Actually you can drive right up there now, security is gone.

WHAT A SHAME TO HAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL OLD BUILDING DESTROYED BY FIRE SATURDAY 4/7/07. THANKS TO THIS PHOTOGRAPHY THE BEAUTY IS STILL PRESERVED. SCARY, BUT PRESERVED. I WENT TO ESSEX AGRICULTURAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE FROM 1985-1987 AND IT IS BELOW THIS MAGNIFICENT, HORRIFYING BUILDING. I DID GO UP THERE AND SNEAK AROUND BUT WOULD NEVER WANT ILL TO COME TO THIS PLACE.

I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL BEHIND THIS BUILDING, WE UED TO SNEEK UP THERE AND SNOOP AROUND. THE BUILDING IS AS SCARY AS ANYTHING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN!!
When we were on the roof at night, mainly in the tower, you could see the headlights of cars coming over the top of the hill way over on 128 in Beverly. The lights would suddenly appear very brightly then go down the hill and disappear, it was cool.
At that same spot on the highway, once you hit the apex of the hill, you could see Danvers State way off in the distance.

...I've never been to the Danvers Asylum before to brake-in & look around, the only real reson that I *Know* anything about the Danvers Asylum is because of the movie 'Session 9'. I Live out in Framingham, MA, & Me & few friends of mine Broke into another mid-1800's Kirkbride Asylum....the Abandoned Worcester State Hospital...which is right directly next to the ACTIVE Worcester State Hospital & The place was crawling with Armed Security Guards Driving Marked white SUV's...We had to be all dressed in black, head to toe with resperator masks so-as not to breath-in anything that would be very bad for is to breath in...They were all Decked-Out with Flash lighs & There was me, "the Big Guy" of the group Carrying a 75 Lbs. Hardened Steel Pick Axe Over one Shoulder in case of Squatters, Dangerous Animals, etc.....once we got in, it was pretty lame...I Had a co2 gassed pellet hand gun that looked just like a .44-Magnum Six Revolver in a chest holdster, a bat came out & Buzzed one of my friends, I unloaded a full cylinder into the bat before he could fly back to his nest or whatever.....

this was an amazing structure, and avalon took it away
It's hard to believe they would destroy most of that building; it could all have been converted to apartments like the center 1/3 is now. I just came from the Avalon Bay webcam and noticed that the scaffolding around the tower. The webcam is in the rear of the building, and the view of the tower is not so good. It would be wonderful to see some photos from the front of the building. The new roof is on the building now and it looks exactly like the old roof. From the outside the building will look like it did in old times.

It's incredible... I'm trying to imagine how the very last day of ordinary activity seemed... And what happened next? They just turned off lights, locked everything and went together away?? Or was there the last working unit, performing as usual in more and more empty complex?
