in some situations, hydrotherapy was a so called 'therapy' for psych patients, but also it was used for patients in nursing homes and hospitals who had contracted limbs, to try to relax to muscles, so they could try to straighten them out a bit, the water was very warm, sort of like a hot tub.
HydroTherapy was in no way warm water. It was ice cold designed to shock the paitents, for what purpose I do not know, I'm just a mechanic. But I do know for a fact it was not plesant.
Michele...wise ass punks? Goths? DAMN YOU. Open your goddamn eyes. This place needs to be opened as a historical site. Those bastards at Avalon Bay Communities are trying to buy it out, to build condos and aptmts in the EXISTING BUILDINGS. Talk about haunted. They even offered to give discounted places to the mentally challenged in the community. So, here are your three choices:
1) Stays as is. Those thrill seekers go bustin through your yard, in an attempt to visit the most haunted place in America.
2) Avalon Bay Comm. buys it all, creates living spaces haunted not only by the lunatics that were trapped there but also the salem witches, that they won't even get any residents due to the spook factor!
3) Davers Preservation Fund Inc. gets what is needed to restore the grounds and open the hospital to the public. So much history has yet to be unveiled there and so many things are yet to be discovered. I, for one, would love to go visit. AND if this goes through, you won't have to worry about your precious lawn getting, god forbid, walked on by "goths."
As far as an update, Danvers Preservation Inc. has achieved a temporary hold on the sale of the premises as of 10/20/05. Check it out for yourself. http://www.danversstateinsaneasylum.com
Hey, OMG I was just web surfing and I came to this site that had this same exact picture on it but outside it was made to look stormy. Did you know about it Motts? (www.gothicstyle.co.uk/gothic_wallpaper.php)
There are many unmarked graves all over the hill.
Former State employee, Have seen records that indicate at least 200 unmark graves of those unfortunate patients that had no family...........
The state is in a hurry to get rid of the propertie to hide the abuse and neglect that went on thier for many years....Many expierements were done to residents without thier knowledge the worst was the testing of radiation during world war2. It was feed to residents in oatmeal. Only the reidents without family..........
And how do you know it isn't "spookworld" Michele? You know that everyone involved in supernatural research isn't some lunatic right? What is it with the rash of people with attitudes coming here and ruining the fun of this site?
I would LOVE to have Byberry in my neighborhood, I would explore the shit out of it!!!! ;-) (probably spend more time there then I do On Mott's magnificent site!!)
hey so i think they should let people view the building, take some pictures or something before they rip it down. If not i'll just have to get in there by myself. WHOS WITH ME!
Chey, in Michele's defense I think the images of Byberry on this site show that not everyone shares our respect for these places. Many people just see a derelict building as a place to take drugs and party, and as a result they quickly become an eyesore and a hazard.
Sadly there's no way of controlling those who get inside - indeed the 'asshats' are less likely to be deterred by barbed wire and sealed entrances as they just smash their way in.
Put another way, would you want a Byberry in your neighbourhood?
