When I worked there us housekeeping staff would polish that stairway until it shined like gold. The walls were always freshly painted, nothing was let go at all. The staff took pride in the place, mopping floors, cleaning. We used to get help from the patients too! I'm pretty sure that is the stairway that will not get torn down (is in the Kirkbride center building). Hope they restore it with feeling . . .

Bill that woodwork was all done by hand. My GGgrandfather helped build it. No electricity, no modern conveniences. Those support beams are monsterous, big heavy almost no knots in them. They used the best supplies available. When I worked there I had the master key so we used to go up into the peaks and smoke, they had chains where they would restrain patients (way before medications). How many souls will be awakened when they tear this down? Will be like the movie Ghostbusters !

I worked there for two years in the Housekeeping and Kitchen department. I had the master keys I got from a guy in Security, to all the "tunnels" and got into wards that almost no one could go into. Patients records from the 1860's still in boxes, totally creepy. Now some wrecking ball is going to ruin all that Danvers brick (all bricks made right in Danversport and hauled by horses). The watertower was shown a few times in the movie "Session 9" hey rent that movie it shows the kitchen where I used to work.

I have been reading alot of of the diferent comment s that people have made about Danvers and I think it's a shame that they are going to tear this shit down!!! When I saw the movie session 9 I fell in love with the builing. The movie wasn't that great but it felt tlike th builing itself was a character.I have to say that these pictures are amazing! I had shivers down my spine when I was looking at these phots!! WELL DONE. I wish that there was some way for me to get there to see Danvers before it get torn down, but I think I would probably be too much of a chicken shit to go inside.lol!! Hands up to you going in there and taking these pictures.

John Black: true, there are many other people with this name I was just making an example of how privacy issues are handled very differently these days, posting names on doors is a big no no where I work 8-)
All these comments... LONG comments novel sized and all that's in the picture is the 'Session 9' chair. Well... oooookay then. *Shakes head* Wish I had alotta time on my hands.

Wonderfully Done Shot Motts. Always love the lone chairs your signature shots.
I find it amazing how the government can have something so amazing in architecture and an amazing art piece in itself, and allow it to deteriorate to such a $h!tty condition

I strongly doubt that a name by itself represents a privacy violation. There are undoubtedly many Ann Hansons in the world. i.e. There is nothing uniquely identifying about the name and no medical history presented.

to answer Ed's question HIPPA is a patient privacy act, you should sign one each year @ your doctors office, infoming you that your information is not shared with any other facilty without your permission first. And I am sure that Ann Hanson was not able to express this and that makes it a violation of her privacy.
