Friday Dec. 9, 2016 at 3:00PM the stacks came down. Implosion by CDI of Maryland did the work. Buildings were taken down a few years ago according to The Reading Eagle newspaper.
there was an auto salvage yard renting this space and then got evicted junk cars left here afterward. The dust is because of a precast business in another part of the building which when they cleaned the molds the dust flew all over. This place had historical significance was even on Hitler's list of places to strike it even had counter measures in place to stop or deter an attack , but its all gone now
...I have always had this fascination of taking a chimney of such height and robustness...reinforcing 'er w/I-beams thru' the wall and welded to exterior steel-bands encircling the chimney at various points up the structure...to distribute load properly...then construct floors throughout w/varying ceiling heights...balconies...outrageous circular staircases...inside and out...(w/appropriate wrought-iron cage-work) and, using the top as a chest-level circular wall...topping her w/a 'roof'-Jacuzzi, Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope...and of course...a well stocked bar...plus, escape parachutes...though the place should be well above the maximum code-level for fire protection...I may need the engine-powered one to escape my creditors for such the outlandish yet, absolutely cool abode...
Had several relatives that worked in this building, some during the war inspecting the tanks, others making machinery years later. Myself, I worked inside for a former tenant and often walked around the building. A very creepy building at night, particularly without any lighting. Personally saw Raccoon footprints that looked like dog paw prints.
The owner of the building refused to put any money into it to keep it up to codes, fined multiple times and spent time in jail for not paying the fines.
As far as getting into see it again, I do not think that would be possible, it is being torn down and is in dilapidated condition.
The site has some mystery to it though, there are rumors of items buried on the grounds somewhere. These items are reportedly buried DEEP and may never be found. There were several eye witnesses to blankets, tools, cots, etc. being dumped by the truck load in DEEP holes on the property somewhere then buried. They may be in the back of the building in the field, however that could never be confirmed.
