P.S.: It's probably just graffiti, created long after this place closed, and poorly-drawn graffiti at that.

I'm not trying to engage in flaming here, but I have to agree (in part, at least) with sunsetblvd1. I can understand and even empathize with her irritation at those who insist on finding something sinister in every aspect of a psych hospital, but Lynne's comment just struck me as a little callous, particularly for someone in the mental health profession.

I've been hospitalized on more than one occasion and I'd like to think there's some interest in what it's like to be a patient, but with all due respect, comments like the one referenced above tend to discourage me from posting. I highly doubt that I'm the only former patient who feels this way.

Again, I'm just offering this as a view from the "other side," so to speak, not as a condemnation of anyone, and I hope I won't be attacked for voicing my concerns.
live near in the cemetery you can feel the pain of the suffered patients. Every tombstone has numbers not names to label the people.
I want one

I also drove by where the old Met State used to be. The only thing that was left was the building at the entrance, over to the far left, as seen by the aerial shot. The rest is gone and only condos remain. Very sad. Also, very sad history...if any place is haunted, I would say that the grounds of this old state hospital would be.
Again, Lynne is displaying her not-so-kind attitude laced with some condecention......SO NICE SEEING YOUR POOR ATTITUDE...for being in the heath profession, sounds like you need a couple hours yourself.

My dad's father used to work in the boiler room at the other hospital down the street, because of his job my dad lived in a farm house between the Met State and the other hospital. My dad grew up around the Met State and has told me numerous stories about how people would sit on the balconies screaming for help, though since they were considered "Crazy", no one would investigate. I know a lot about the tunnels that ran between both hospitals and I've heard their still in existence today. I'm only in my teens, so i have never been in the run down Met State, but many of my friends live in the now finished Avalon Apartments that are made from the original buildings of the Met State. A lot of weird unexplained things have happened when I stay over my friends, I wouldn't recommend going there.
