It was an old art therapy picture probably. Looked like Lucy from Peanuts and then said metalhead drew some blood and wrote a Cannibal Corpse song title. That's art right there. No Slayer?
Bucky Katt, while I appreciate your sentiments and totally get where you're coming from, I have to make a correction. The kids that were placed at Gaebler were not "mentally disabled". They were mentally ill. As someone who has struggled with mental illness her whole life and who has been placed in psychiatric institutions twice, I can't help but be offended by your choice of words. Yes, I'm mentally ill. But in no way am I disabled. I'm just as able and capable as the next girl. Mental illness is NOT a disability, and anyone who views it as such is just promoting the negative stigma that is/was attached to people like the kids who were sent to Gaebler.

Ok, getting off my soapbox now...

Ive loved these pics motts you've an exceptional talent the way you do them but you must have some balls on you to go into these places, ive looked through most of your gallerys and been moved by this one the most. The fact that children were kept in these cells and not the most brutal of convicts shocks me. If it wasent for people like you uncovering the harsh realities of institutes like these, they would probly stay the same with unknowing parents trying to do the best for there child sending them there. Good for you, i think your doing a service for the better, well done.

How can that room be so small to keep a child its more of a cell, its disgusting and terrible to think what went on in there after reading Andrew Palmers account. Murderers get bigger cells than that. Great pics as always though.

Oh man, this would give children nightmares just to look at those murals.

I'm with Nina on this one. I don't care if the drawing or writing is from a song or not. Given the location of this find and the history of it, this shot creeps me out to no end. (Which takes some doing as I work part-time in the funeral business.) It's very much like that shot of the "rabbit" at one of the other child psych institutions Motts has here.

i have always loved ernie but these paintings are disturbing, when you think about the kind of children who would have seen these and the nightmares which may have resulted!

Reminds me of something out of a "living dead" film, very frightening. I am not sure why. Well done as well, which of course does not hurt.

The sicko is probably between 18 and 25. He's probably white. Underachiever, willing to call atention to himself by doing crazy stuff. A fan of Death metal. Anything else? Unless you mean the picture then I'd add, is probably a fan of the art of Robert Steadman,

Or he's just a dick.
