Someone had permission at some point becuase I just saw a book at Borders that was pages and pages of the abandoned parts of Ellis Island (mental and medical hosital and the like.) According to the book there are plans to start more restorations.

In response to Talon's comment about cleaning the intestines, I did a medical rotation at our cities medical examiner's office and assisted with autopsies. We all had to clear the intestines at least once. It's an experience (and smell) one will never forget. The intestines were placed in a large soup pot to transfer to the hopper for cleaning. It was many years before I could make homemade soup again!
