Id wager that it is the same...and that really puts insto perspective how refurbishment ruins such places. as stunning as Motts' pic is, imagine it with those skirting boards and windows. modernisation folks...its so much plainer.

Without proper upkeep (depending on the construction of course) chimneys can start to deteriorate. Perhaps when they upgraded to a more modern form of heating (they would have had to at some point...can you imagine trying to heat that place with wood even in the 50's?) they took them down so they wouldn't have to worry about a stray brick beaning someone out for a stroll.

Those splotches are odd though, like water balloons full of poo were lobbed at the wall.

Maybe if you turn it, the complex rotates?

i second that! us brits are so health concious that even a drity bannister could cause us to faint in disgust...and on such a steep staircase you could very well tumble the whole way...maybe even break a nail...

It all makes sense now! despite the sinister appearance the lonely chairs are actually there to help us! this one mustve told the escapees to go on without it...and that it would try and hold off security for as long as it could...brave lil chair.
