But on another note, the background story of this facility was fascinating and disturbing. The historical aspect cannot be ignored as this was the birthplace of the Kirkbride plan. However, reading about all the surgeries and tooth extractions in search of a "cause" of mental illness must have made this place a Hell on earth. I believe it was Winston Churchill who said "Those who refuse to learn from the past, are destined to repeat it". These spectacular galleries will teach many the past mistakes of antiquated mental health care. And for that, we thank you.
