The light & shadow, the unexpected richness of color in the floor make this a haunting shot.

In the 1960's we used to ski down "Dippy Hill" at the edge of hospital grounds. Little did we know what was hidden there.

I think it's cool the way one door is standing open. It's like death beckoning, saying, you're time shall come, my friend!

I've lived in the area since 1993, the same year the hospital closed.
For years former mental patients drifted about the streets of Northampton. There are still some about, but their numbers have thinned in the past several years.
I know people who have gone poking around in the old buildings, but I always steered clear of the place. Structural frailties, collapsed floors, tunnels full of water, asbestos everywhere...NO THANKS!

Morgues and medical facilities are almost always centrally located in these mental health facilities, but sometimes they are in seperate or well sealed buildings or wings; I've missed out on a few for those reasons.

Only about an inch or two... it looks deeper because of the perfectly still water's reflection.

i've seen the hospital from far away and it looks like it could be really awesome to see the inside. i've done research and i saw pictures of the cafeteria and there was a ghost ( well a blur). It was awesome. one of these days. I'm not afraid of what may still be in there i'm afraid that a floor or ceiling will fall on me. Or to get lost in the dark. e-mail me at:
