This is an absolutely incredible shot. It's like I'm there in the room, silently watching the dust float by.

Seriously gorgeous building.
I looked the square building up today on a certain internet maps site because I was curious about the huge abandoned thing. It happens to be the tallest thing visible when you come in on the ferry. I was really upset to hear that it was only demolished in 2012 since I would have been able to at least see it from outside the fence since I'm at college nearby and was around at the time. It's funny, the building that's left can be found on realty websites and most say "owned by: (unknown)" makes it seem really creepy, but I guess like someone said it makes most sense that the city owns it. great work on the pictures of all these sites!
Absolutely beautiful! :( It is gone now! :(
Strange nobody wanted to live there, so it was not fixed, renovated and sold as flats!
Would love to live in a building like that.
Do most Americans prefer a house????
Thank you for the wonderful pictures,
Yes, they sure built pretty back in the days; that wider lowest step is so inviting to the rest of the staircase. Like indeed. May you always be well Mr. Motts - you are brave.

The Grand Old Lady is gone now. Such a waste of beautiful architecture.

Today they demolished this beautiful building on Staten Island. I'm glad to be able to see your photos and to have memories of this beautiful site!
I would love to see this in person!
Q: How do you drive a drummer crazy?

A: Put him in this room, and tell him to stand in the corner!
