It made supervision of the "clients" much easier. Now something like this would never be allowed because of client rights...a much needed improvement in the care of chronically mentally ill and developmentally disabled.
Beds as far as the eye can see, despair piled up to the ceiling, big windows that let in the sun but don't let out the depression, no such thing as privacy...misery loves company...but these people would have preferred not to have the misery.
Just found this site a few days ago - have been hooked ever since.
One of the elementary schools I attended as a kid had a bathroom like this - no doors, just little walls between the toilets. Only went there once a week for "GATE" but it was a normal functioning elementary school in the Hill District in Pittsburgh with kids who attended daily, too.
Never understood the bathrooms. NO ONE would use them! there was one "teacher's stall" at the end with a door everyone would stand in line to use - even the kids who went to school there every day and were used to it. So of course going to the bathroom took forever.
Ummm... yeah. No privacy in the can is just a little dehumanizing.
Does this have to do with the Gennie that I learned about in Human Development in college? She's pretty famous... shit I better read more into this before commenting.
Quinnifer : :-*....Hmmm. Yes, of course it occurred to people, but I can see by looking that you're rather new to this site (unless you've used another name). So.....just a (the tiniest-bit sarcastic ;-)) "FYI" for ya : many posters here have been enjoying looking at and commenting on Mr. Mott's great photos here for a couple of years or more, and simply like to take a break from their otherwise busy lives to have a little fun while they enjoy the galleries. I'll let you in on a secret, even (BONUS!) : It isn't always serious :-D. In any case, I'll just smile at your unnecessary rudeness and let you continue speaking for yourself (psst!....BTW, putting little stars in there doesn't make using that word any more classy). If you'll notice, most comments are about the photos, and most people here are quite polite, actually. If you don't like reading the comments, there is a convenient button, "i", at the top to hide them. You have yourself a peachy- keen day now :-).
