OMG. I went here one fall weekend in the late 70s (maybe 1978?), part of a group of students from Queens College. The place was already run-down...some friends had to switch rooms because their first room was infested with bees! I do have vivid memories of hanging out in the lobby and watching a bunch of students getting drunk and going for a midnight swim...
I was there in the late 70s, on a college student weekend. You'll never guess who was the comedy act on Saturday night: a very young, pre-porn Ron Jeremy! (He was a terrible comedian, BTW)
Great photo Motts....I really like this small gallery. I do hope they are really restoring this castle building. Its like do all buildings have to be destroyed. Can't some be re-used and saved. If not than shame on us for not perserving some history. Truely....for we lose always. Time may go on and memories do fade....but some history does need to be saved. Somehow and in someway......Thanks Motts.....
Mr Security....are they restoring this house or not? Thats what I'd like to know. I couldn't go there even if I wanted too. I just hope they are restoring this beautiful building ....if not than shame on them. IMO anyway.......
I really enjoyed those links of before & after photos....thats sad cause it was so beautiful before....what a total shame and waste of a beautiful building.....what a crying shame. So is it really gonna be restored??
The castle is so gothic looking. Nice photo Motts. Its a shame if they are saving the building that we cannot have before and after shots when the repairs are done. That would be great. Love those before & after shots.....just a thought....
I just can't image all those people some 60 in one room? If what the poster (David Salt)above said is true. That would be horrible. Plus not much privacy at all. That would be hard to handle. We all need some privacy. Good picture Motts....
yeah most haunted are doing ther investigations on the asylum finding many a ghost and sad story last night was the first night of the village of the damned (most haunted on living)
they had everything fhey needed within the 130 acres of it so they could keep the place isolated but it is beleived that just over 2000 souls lived within this building then they had to sleep in the corridors as there was no room for them all so they extended the buildings but before the hospital was built there were wiccan witches on this site wich the patients were able to talk to due to there mental state but them bein were they were the doctors didnt beleive them and considered them to be raving mad and performed electric shock theropy or sedated them up to a week but its has been known that this witch was tryin to heel the patients as she was a healer in life (wiccan)
