My Grandmom also told me a story about how she worked in old Byberry as a nurse, I'd say probably in the 20s and one night there was a patient revolt and she had to lock herself in a supply closet.
Also was in, at least I think it was this one, auditorium and we found old bits of costumes. Bowties and other odds and ends. My cousin also found a book that contained patient names,, diagnoses, meds, ages, Dr. names.
Can't believe this place is gone. It was there my whole life....

I have been surfing around byberry sites for hours now and these pics are awesome. I grew up close enought to Byberry that they used to tell us not to go in the woods near Nottingham because some of the released patients lived back there.

I did my psych nursing rotation at this hospital..it was creepy occupied in the late 80's!! The halls were long and they had these large open areas, called common rooms where all the patients hung out...sometimes they'd fight...if they're "area" was invaded by another patient...
