This picture and the other one of the children on the wall evoke so much emotion for me. I Currently am a county case worker and use to work with mentaly and physicaly challanged individuals. I recently heard about this place via ghost hunters. It is heart breaking that people could treat others, and most importaly children this way. I understand that some people are not capable for caring for those with disablilities, but to mal-treat them is just unacceptable. God Bless those that had compassion for these poor children and cared for them. For those that were so heartless as to do harm to them... your time will come. Some day you will have to explain your actions, and NO explaination will we acceptable.
My mom used to work there when i was a kid - in the newer dorm style buildings. I still have a set of the keys that would open pretty much any door in that place - including the tunnels
I worked in these state facilities in Illinois, forensics populations include, not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI) and unfit to stand trial (UST). The GUILTY but insane are at the prisons with designated housing for the criminally insane . People also came into forensics from the jails if they exhibited suicidal behavior or other behavior requiring mental health evaluation. A member of the population exhibiting behavior that would authorize change in status from NGRI would be tranferred to the prison system, UST members of the population could be deemed fit and tried for their crime, if found guilty they would be transferred to the penal system. The buildings and wards were locked..the population was free within the ward unless behavior required physical or medical restraint , which was determined by medical staff.
It is still as creapy as ever. Was there today with my wife and 2 of my kids. We were not there for more than 10 mins. and were chased off. It is something that stays with you long after you leave. Government run health care is a very scary reality!!!!!!!!!!
my daughter when she was 2 or 3 yrs old was in one for 3 weeks with lead poisoning, she cried the first few days then the doctors and nurses seen she was to old for one and let me bring in her toys to decorate it to make her feel more at ease. ic ant fathom how those children delt with it. shes 21 now ,i feel old!

When i worked at "little ceasers pizza" when used it to make the dough and grind the cheese. the top handle you use to turn the "blade" inside to scrape the walls of cheese. there was a soft blade inside the center for the dough. on top theres another smaller knob it is used to open and look through to see if the food is done . the name on ours was called BERKLE. looks ike the one i used in the early 80's. after years of working with it i had popeye" arms....lol....which the men seemed to like... ;)
