When you hear someone say, "Everything but the kitchen sink..." well, now you know where the sink went.

Although this looks to be more like a bathroom sink. ;-)

Ah, to know of the people who spent their nights upon this bed, and what dreams they may have endured...

Astounding!

I'd rather see the forces of nature pull a building like this back into the earth upon which it stood for so long, than to see the machinery of mankind heartlessly plow it under.

Something about old, darkened lights just gets me every time. The brightness we surround ourselves with to keep out the gloom is part of what defines our modern existence. To see lights, extinguished and obsolete, drives home for me the depth of abandonment in these venerable old places. Never again will the glow of these fixtures illuminate the halls here. The glow of continuing life has permanently departed.

What was said behind this door echoed down through the lives of so many who passed between these walls. Now... the final fate has been decided for the walls themselves.

No one decorates stair risers anymore! There was such an eye for details back when this was erected!

So crisp! The delineation between the building and the sky is stunning. The brilliant blue sky spinning overhead watched as this magnificent edifice was constructed... and demolished, impartial to it all.

Now that's just odd.

But lovely.

So incredible.... to think it hung there all those years, unmolested except by time, only to fall completely unnoticed beneath a bulldozer's blade.

I second EchoRose. I also want this enlarged to about 20"x30", framed and hanging on my wall.

Oh my goodness, this is a stunning shot. So much emotion in the stark desolation!

However, at first glance, I also thought it said "ICE."

I think it says either "1E-C" or "IE-C." Since it's pointing toward what is presumably the first floor, I'm leaning towards the first possibility.

They just don't build them like this anymore. Aesthetics have been abandoned for sterile, modern functionality.
