This may have been in the early stages of realization that some developmentally disabled people were actually "trainable". My cousin had brain damage from a high fever and the doctor told my Aunt that she could just go home and leave her son there and the doctor would put him away for her...she didn't need to worry herself over him. She did take him home and later in life after my aunt died, he was capable of living in a group home because she chose to keep him home and teach him whatever he could learn.

This must have been before there was such a seperation of church and state...

The Loss of such an impresive landmark in WIlkes-Barre is not a step in the right direction as the local politicians would like everyone to believe. Replacing a true architechtural gem with either a vacant lot or a new faceless glass and concrete box is rediculous. I read a partial list of how the 6 million dollars was spent on the property. I am not an expert, but I would think it would have been prudent to spend some of that money on repairing the roof and drainage systems which would have kept the structural and cosmetic damage from progressing. Even though I am pretty sure there is no way of stopping the planned demolition, I still hold a shadow of hope that somehow the building will survive for generations to come.

Gotta watch out if you get into the buildings. There is alot of asbestos, that is one of the reasons why the buildings haven't been reclaimed. Not to mention a large homeless population that lives in the woods there.

I understand what u guys are saying about the ghost shows , but it would b dope if they had a show that didt have ghosts in it but simply had motts showing these places and walking through them showing these sites would b incredible, i think u could make a fortune of it and millions would watch the exploration of these old abandoned places on tv in HD from home . dont lie guys it would b on ur dvr everyweek lol

Although the hospital officially closed in 2003, this area was abandoned in the 1970s.

It's sad that this place in such bad condition. It was only abandoned eight years ago!
