i think it was for hydrotherapy baths...we had something similar when i worked at a center for the mental ill in the 80's....it was a nice place for the handicapped and for the employees...sure there are mean people in every profession but basically the people i knew were good and caring people and most loved their clients

My stepmums father was in charge of these wards when they were still being used, crazy to think he would be in charge of locking poor souls in these rooms. Have heard some stories, it seems it was mostly for their own good. The patients were forced to wear special "helmets" as they would bang their heads against these walls, and although they are padded it still did some damage. It's horrible to think of some of the people who had been in that small room and what they must have had to endure.

My stepmum used to work in this asylum, as did her parents for many years. She vividly remembers every part of this place, and could easily tell you what every room was used for. Her dad was in charge of the "padded cell ward" and apparently it was horrific. She remembers this rainbow too. Her childhood was spent here and apparently the grounds are truly spectacular, or were. Shame to see it like this. Does anyone know the current state of the asylum? Is it still standing?
