I worked with Speedy during the summers of '77 and '78 and I remember this room very well. Very fond memories. When I was with the band, Linda Collins was the vocalist. I joined the Garfin Gathering after Linda Carter.
I wonder when fire was?
While open and room never repaired after?
After the facility closed, and it went out by itself?
Or was someone cold, and put it out after they warmed up ? ? ? ?
I have to agree with Garth, the title was addd later as the handwriting doesnt match. (Mott I copid it to my desktop to enlarge, deleted after i "analized" it)
Points:
title: the i is not dotted as in the name marcia
the N doesnt match either
Very creepy in either case.....
This could be my dream home...How I would love an old state facility to convert into a house. A room redone as an O.R., annd other places rebuilt (The only house in town with its own morgue) :-)
I see that equipment is always left behind. Yes it may be antique, but how antique can test tubes, and desks and such get, when it was left there it must of still been functional. And it is more than just these projectors.chairs, wheelchairs, beds, etc... makes one wonder with what it cost to equip some of these places.. government spending at work....
The treatment of mentally handicapped has changed dramatically over the years. It went from people being locked in basements and attics at home to 1 on 1 treatment in facilities which included sensory deprivation, leaching and solitary confinement to in some state institutions to over population and neglect. Now they are "normalized" into society. I worked in a facility for some time and could not mentally handle it myself (I was affraid I would loose touch emotionally and become a "client") I traind near and had the oppertunity to tour Danvers state http://www.danvers-state-ia.com/home.html
which will be coming down soon (wish I could go back there and photograph it prior to destruction...another one going away...)
Actually, from firsthand knowlege, the graffitti at Byberry was created to relieve boredom, show others that you've been there, and as a freedom of expression for the more artistic works. It really has more to do with relieving boredom though, than anything else. You have to realize, some of us have been hanging out here for over a decade.
